President1

As a overseas corporation , HIRO-Chan has decided to hire 100 new staffs that no one has done before. Here's an interview of PT. HIRO-Chan, president and CEO, Mr. Hiroyasu Neriai.

Do what you want to do in your job! Please, come to Bali to make your dream come true.

Q.Please, tell us why you decided to hire such a larnge number of the new staffs.
- We, HIRO-Chan Groupd has reached the 10th year since the foundation. When I visited Bali for the first time, there were no enough travel supports available. "I want to make the situation better and provide many people opportunities to enjoy Bali!" As a result of the hard work, our business has been expanding meanwhile Bali developing.
This is a new step of the 10th anniversary of HIRO-Chan Group. I considered how we could improve Indonesia and provide the best holiday in Bali to people all over the world. Then, the answer was again, the the Internet technology which we have been using to run the business since the foundation.
We focused on its posibility and has become stable as a travel agency only with it. Many Japanese coporations have been considering us as a role business model of the Internet business, so now we are making the business more systematic to improve the travel industory in Bali, so new staffs who can open up the possibility with us is necessary.

Dreams of our each staff and the company come true together.

Q. What is your ideal talent you are looking for to make the visiton happen?
- I believe that the most important thing is " heart". The capability doesn't matther, but you have to be able to ask yourself what and how you can use your talent or motivation for the company and customers. For example, as a web designer, at least understanding of the html and css systems is desirable, but it doesn't mean there is no chance to work in the position without the knowledge of those. For anyone who wants to learn the skill, we provide the opportunity to learn and work with it at the same time. You can develop your skill with your own pace.
Q. So, it doesn't have to be a specialist to join the company.
President2- Of course, not. I want someone who is willing to work hard together with the strong motivation instead of having great skill or abilities without the motivation. Even though we are based on the web business, there are many kind of jobs here such as product plannning, creating documents, customer service, translation and so on.
After joining us, you will be doing a job which you can use your skill or talent for the first 3 months. If the work suits you, then that's somehing you can do in the company. On the other hand, if you are not satisfied with it, we work together to make it better. I am hoping to be able to provide many people chances to make their dreams come true.
I believe a group of the people who have different individuality creats something very special and strong. It will be great that all our staffs and the company grows together to make each dream come true.

Possibility is unlimited. Challenge anything!

Q. For people moving abroad, the local life is something they are worried about at the beginning. How do you support it?
- We provide a place to stay for the first month to see whether you don't have any problems with living in Bali and the work in the company. The living condition is different between your country and Bali. Water is different. A body might not suit the evvironment. That's why we have the 1 month traial period for new staffs to make their best decision. In reality, most people get used to the life in Bali sooner than they expect and are having a great time.
Now, we have 20 staffs mostly from Japan, so please ask them any questions or talk about probrems you have, they will be happy to answer to help you. Of course, I support everyone as well.
Q. Here's another question. Even though we all understand that the prices of Bali and other countries are different, everyone concerns the wage. How much is it increased in this overseas competitive field?
President3- We offer an enough wage to make a living in Bali possible during the apprenticeship. After that, the wage is going up every year until the average wage of each home country. I am thinking to increase the wage until the maximum Rp. 30,000,000 per month (about $3,000) systematically. Of course, it wil depend on the capability, but a decrease in wage won't happen except any special cases.
Bonuses will be offered as well. For example, if items or syetems you create brings benefits to the company, we return it as a increase in wage or special bonus. I take it for granted that our staffs are respecedt by the company.
In the end, it will be the best to do the business with each staff individually and share 50% of the benefit of the developed products for each. It is my idea that both the company and the staffs grow together by producing the new items with the infrastructure such as using our name value and ability to attract customers. I want many of the staffs to keep challenging.

We need you to change Bali.

Q.Fot the great challenge, the economic development is must. What do you think of the future of Bali, Indonesia?
President4- The world is expecting that Indonesia will become the most developed country in the future. One of the reason for that expectation is the higher number of the birthrate. The population in Indonesia has been increasing which means the number of the child is increasing as well. I believe when those children become adults and the labor in Indonesia will expand the economy widely like it happened in Japan in the past.
A lot of International capitals have been entering the business field in Bali and those corporations and individuals with new technology and knowledge have been changing the life of people in Bali. It was only 20 years ago that the first traffic light appeared in this island, so the speed of the growing is faster than everybody expect. I strongly believe that Bali will be next Singapore, a center of the International corporations. We would like to lead the development as a pioneer.
Q.As HIRO-Chan group, what is the specific policy to develop Indonesia?
- The first step we have been working on is "BIBA - Bali Web Business Association" which is the first nonprofit organization in Bali which provides various service through the Internet. It is for the safing and restoration of the information between Bali and Japan.
Also, Indonesia and Japan has the agreement that Japan provides Indonesia oppotunities for ndonesians to learn various types of skill and techonology, including the modest Internet technology. We are in the middle of the process to create the foundation as a window for Indonesia. As a corporation, we want not only pursuing the benefits, but also contributing to the development of Bali, Indonesia.

It is not difficult at all to get what you want in your prefered field.

Q.Do you have any message to people who want to HIRO-Chan Groups?
President5- It is not difficult at all to get what you want in your prefered job field, because you will never give up on anything if you cherish it.
Bali has many chances. We will support you with our best. Let's make your dream come true!

There is an opportunity for the exhibition of what we have for 120%.

Q.Please, tell us about your previous jobs.

Q.You have had various jobs! How did you get into HIRO-Chan?
- I have known Mr. Neriai before and had a chance to talk with him one day. We both shared some ideas of business and the flow led me to work with him naturally.
Q. Your case is little bit different from other staffs, becasue you were already in Bali at that time. Let's get back on the time you came to Bali for the first time.
- It was over 25 years ago. I had a Japanese surfing friend who recommended me to study abroad in Bali. It seemed interedting, so I decided to do it. It was in 1985, when I was 18 years old.
Q.You must have been seeing all the changes in Bali. It was quite different from a long time ago, wasn't it?
- It was completely different. When I visited Bali for the first time, Legian Street which is a famous shoppng and night club street today was still the gravel path surrounded by the jungle. It took only 20 years becoming moderan. It is crazy.
Q.It is very interesting, isn't it. What made you come back to Bali even though you have lived in other countries such as America and Australia. You could have stayed in Japan, too.
- Bali has beautiful nature, cultuer and people who always welcome others. Also, GOOD WAVES! As a surfer, it is very important for me. There are so many reasons why I love Bali. It is a perfect environmet for me to live.
Q.Why did you choose HIRO-Chan from among other companies in Bali?
- HIRO-Chan accepted me as who I am. Mr. Neriai made me feel confident about the possiblity to make a good use of all my previous experiences and skill.

I enjoy the speed of commodification. Good ideas soon becomes products.

Q.Did you feel any gaps between your expectation and the actual job after starting working at HIRO-Chan? Do you still have the same passsion you had when you were talking with Mr. Neriai?
- It was much better than I expected! Everyday, a new idea is coming up from each staff. Our staffs are very unique in a good way and have different ability and ideas. We are based on the web marketing, so can provide a product soon after the idea comes up which is our strongest point. It is also beneficial to get quick responces from our customers. It is impossible at Japanese corporations, because they usually spend a lot of time until products actualy become available to customers.
Q.You are right. Japanese corporations require many meetings and presentations to create one product. Can you tell us more specifically what you do in the fastest work environment?
- The most important work is to collect information and ideas to create new products. For example, now I am inchrge of the product development of the "Super reasonable" serious. To provide our customers the best menus with the cheapest price than other companies, I went all over Bali to research.
There are other things such as managing partner agencies, a price negotiation, customer support as a concierge, foreign customer service, creating blogs, training and managing our staffs and so on.
Maru2
Q.How much are you satisfied with your job?
- I would say 80%. It is great to be able to use all my experience, but the possibility to pioneer a foreign market is out, so I will leave 20% for the chance.
Satisfying with the present condition stops possibility. I will keep advancing to make the status better.
Q.What about your life itself?
- I have lived abroad longer than Japan, so lived in the different living standards. I am not picky. Doing my best to live in the present is my motto.
The company returns what I deserve, so I will work hard to improve my wage as well!
Q.Now, please, tell us about Mr. Neriai.
- He has full of vitality from the experience being a pro dancer back in Japan.
His view is based on the possibility instead of the risk which is opposite from Japanese one. Understanding and believing in each staff is something I want to respect. That's why he gives us equal opportunities even if it is risky.
Q.Here's a last question for you. What type of person can be perfect working at HIRO-Chan?
- I really want everyone to challenge here, especially anyone who has done his/her best, but not been able to earn a good result.
Loving Bali is must. Everybody can enjoy living and working here with flexible and overseas-mind! I am looking forward to meeting many people to work together here in Bali!

Q.Good luck with that! Now, tell us about Mr. Neriai.
- He considers us and is good at finding each staff's strong point, "the right person in the right place". Also, he provides us a comfortable work environment by making sure we don't have any problems.
Q.You have the job, because he saw through you with good English ability. Here's a last question. What type of person can be perfect working at HIRO-Chan?
- HIRO-Chan is a perfecct place for anyone who cherishes life including jobs and has the strong will to improve yourself.People who cannot have passion towards their job would have tough time working here.
