World heritage sites on the island of Gods!
On June 24th, 2012 the 36th Session of World Heritage Committee of (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) UNESCO set 4 famous tourist spots in Bali as world heritage. Those tourist spots are Jatiluwih in the Batukaru mountain reserve in Tabanan Regency, Taman Ayun royal palace in Mengwi Badung Regency, the Pakerisan watershed in Gianyar Regency and Ulun Danu Batur Temple in Bangli Regency. All of those sites are the beautiful tourist attractions in Bali.
Inspired by the Balinese philosophy "Tri Hita Karana"
The reason the subak (irrigation system) listed as a world heritage site is the subak reflects the concept of Tri Hita Karana, three elements that can bring peace and happiness. Those three elements are God, man and nature.
1. Life given by Gods created nature
2. Nature gives human beings environment and necessary food to survive.
3. People are obliged to build organization in the village, build temple worship, hold ceremonies and offerings, protect the nature and discussing together to solve problems.
So that Balinese people maintain a harmonious relationship with God, man and nature.
Jatiluwih area in the Batukaru mountain reserve refers to the area surrounding Batukaru Temple and Jatiluwih rice terraces. It is located approximately an hour drive from Ubud. Batukaru Temple was built in the period of Tabanan kingdom.
The temple with 6 meru shrines lies on the slopes of Mount Batukaru. Not many tourists visiting this temple.
Jatiluwih is famous for its beautiful rice terraces. The name Jatiluwih means ”truly beautiful”.
It is great to have a cup of tea in the café while viewing the beautiful scenery of rice terrace.

Taman Ayun Temple (Mengwi, Badung Regency in the middle of Bali Island) is known as one of the famous tourist attractions in Bali.
This temple is the second largest temple in Bali after Besakih Temple. A temple with beautiful garden and surrounded by beautiful ponds. This temple has 10 meru shrines symbolize Mount Agung and was built as the state temple of the kingdom of Mengwi.

Pakerisan watershed in Gianyar Regency is the famous place of myths and legends of the sacred Pakerisan River. It is also famous for Tirta Empul Temple in Tampak Siring and an historical site of Gunung Kawi Temple complex. Tirta Empul Temple is a holy spring water temple where Hindu Bali people from all over Bali Island go for purification. Gunung Kawi is historical site dating from the 11th century. There is the grave of the King Anak Wungu in the temple complex. Visitors must walk to the temple complex you can view the beautiful scenery of rice terrace.
Gunung Kawi is a historical site with 7 meter high shrines carved into the cliff face. The location of the temple complex also offers beautiful scenery of rice terrace and Pakerisan River.
Tirta Empul Temple is a holy spring water temple located in Tampak Siring. Holy water plays an important role in Bali Hinduism.
Ulun Danu Batur Temple (in Bangli Regency) is a big temple complex located overlooking Lake Batur on the foot of Mount Batur in Kintamani.
This temple complex consists of more than 9 shrines and dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of lake. Kintamani area is breathtaking views of Lake Batur, Mount Batur and Mount Agung.
